LRT tickets reduced by up to 40%: Transport Ministry

The Ministry of Transport announced reduced subscriptions by 50 percent for all users of the light electric train LRT (Adly Mansour / Administrative Capital) and reduced tickets by 30 percent-40 percent until moving to the new administrative capital, the National Authority for Tunnels, announced, Thursday, that starting from Saturday, September 17.

The ministry clarified in its official statement on Facebook that the cuts coincide with the approaching start of the new academic year, the preparations of the various ministries to move to the new administrative capital and to serve train users who live in the new cities and east Cairo.

The statement added that the LRT project is 105 km long and has 19 stations. The first and second phases were opened on July 3, 2022, at a length of 70 km and 12 stations.

The third phase is being implemented at a length of 20 km and four stations, and the fourth phase at a length of 16 km and three stations.

The project includes 22 new air-conditioned trains, each consisting of six vehicles, providing the highest levels of service to the passengers.

The Ministry of Transport will provide minibuses running on natural gas bearing the LRT logo to facilitate the movement of citizens from the cities of eastern Cairo to the LRT stations and back, starting from Saturday September 17, 2022 provided that the service is provided free of charge in these minibuses for a period of two weeks to citizens.

The tariff set for transportation in minibuses will be applied after this period and coordination will be made with universities in these cities to facilitate providing the service to students in preparation for the beginning of the new academic year.
